American Cockroach (Periplanetaamericana)
The American cockroach is considerably larger than the Oriental cockroach, at 25 to 40 mm in body length. In the UK, American cockroach infestations are frequently found near port areas, indicating their shipboard and immigrant status, and are therefore much more restricted in natural distribution than the Oriental cockroach. They are also found in heated situations such as in animal houses, zoos and greenhouses.
As with all the cockroach species, a combination of cockroach traps, gels and residual insecticides is the main approach. The effectiveness of the various residual insecticide formulations may be enhanced by using them in conjunction with insecticides applied as ULVs, mists, fogs or aerosols.
